I have in the past argued about whether what we do, believe and practice can be called a religion. I have always stuck by my belief that it was more cultural in it's manifestation here in Midgard than what I understand as being *religious/ion*. Well this definition fits the bill for me, and I think, at least for myself, settles the argument, or at least closes the gap. You decide for yourself. If you disagree, fine. Don't bug me about it.

"A religion is a set of beliefs and practices generally held by a community,
involving adherence to codified beliefs and rituals and study of ancestral
or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal
faith and mystic experience. The term “religion” refers to both
the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and
communication stemming from the shared conviction.
All patriarchal religions present a common quality, the “hallmark of
patriarchal religious thought”: the division of the world into two comprehensive
domains, one sacred, the other profane. Religion is often described as a communal
system for the coherence of belief focusing on a system of thought, unseen
being, person, or object, that is considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine,
or of the highest truth. Moral codes, practices, values, institutions, tradition,
rituals, and scriptures are often traditionally associated with the core belief,
and these may have some overlap with concepts in secular philosophy. Religion
is also described as a “way of life”.
The development of religion has taken many forms in various cultures. “Organized religion” generally refers to an organization of people supporting the exercise of some religion with a prescribed set of beliefs, often taking the form of a legal entity. Other religions believe in personal revelation and responsibility. “Religion” is sometimes used interchangeably with “faith” or “belief system,” but is more socially defined that that of personal convictions. This is from Neal Boortz's website. Neal is a talk show host from Atlanta,
he's great, and he on occasion sucks. (http:// boortz.com ) He is a libertarian,
like moi. I wish he would spend a little more
time talking about libertarianism, alas, he has to keep up the ratings, so
we get a lot of the same mush and rehash found on other talking head shows.
Still, Neal is a little edgy and lays it out from
time to time and I appreciate it. Now read the quote and think about it. Alexander
Tyler wrote it about
the Athenian Republic. Where are we on this scale? Next to last perhaps, Eh?
Apathy to dependency.
Add slovenly, weak and generally unable to think or function independently
for a large portion of this continental population and you have GOT to wonder
how much longer this republic can stand up
under it's bulging midsection. Gods am I glad I'm SAXON! I'm not afraid of
freedom, true freedom,
unlike the nanny state ninnie's running the country.(Republicans included)

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can
only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from
the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the
candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result
that a democracy always collapses
over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the
world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have
progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith,
from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty
to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency
from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back
to bondage."

Cigars, I love them. Big honkin' ones. I sit in a cigar shop with the boys and conquer the friggin' world several times a week. Yea, so I'm the only heathen in the group. I think they prefer it that way:>) I have a great appreciation of the group I tend to smoke with. We all meander in around noon or a little later, settle into our various seats, grab a Wall Street Journal or the local rag and begin the days dissertations. Each of these men are quite remarkable. Dissertations, not so much sometimes:>) John, Mike, Oscar, Greg, Tom, Kim, Eric, Pauly. Good men. There is the occasional interloper, some I know only by face, but known however, to the others. One occasional good guest is Everte Chieftain. We both managed in time past to locate this shop in St. Petersburg. On rare occasions we show up at the same time by happy accident, if you believe in accidents.. I , well we, I think all lament how smoking has been relegated,( hel, outlawed) to the dustbin of modern society. On many an occasion and gathering have good words and friendships been made over a good drink and a long smoke. Someday folks will yen for the days I remember with my parents and other elders. Big tables, white tablecloths, good crystal, cheap glass, good booze and every kind of smoke available. We still do it here in my Hof, and always will I suspect.
Yea yea, It's a cigar, soooo, no. I don't inhale. I think cigarettes suck.
They make me sneeze. Nasty habit, not a good pleasure or hobby. Machine made
and chemically altered. Not meant to be enjoyed or appreciated in my not so
humble opinion.(I am speaking of American shit sticks. Some European stuff
is good as well as Turkish. Hey, if
it doesn't stink and make me sneeze, you can lite it up, but wouldn't you
just prefer a damn good cigar?) So if you smoke cigarettes, you probably won't
appreciate anything I have to say on the subject. If that's a problem, go
smoke a tailpipe for a few minutes and the problem should resolve itself rather
quickly. Hondurans. Yea baby. My favorites. Punch and Hoyo's. Love Nicaraguans
too. Padrons absolutely kick cigar ass. (anniversario) I have, I
estimate about ten more favorites and at least ten *also smokes*. Cigars have
just gotten better after the big fad of the nineties. Every wannabe was just
a' smokin' then. Assholes. BTW, just for those reading this that might care,
CUBAN CIGARS MOSTLY SUCK! Don't waste your time or money. Ask around. Many
are fakes, and the
fakes can actually be better than the fucking originals. Go figure. Cubans
have a dark ash folks, little magnesium in the soil. Easy clue To be fair,
there are some amazing Cubans out there. As of this time however your cigar
correspondent has yet to actually enjoy one of those. I was given a Cuban
at a Yule, err mass of the christ party,
and it didn't suck. It was fair to midland and I very much appreciated the
gift. Thanks John! You are a good host.
Next rant. If you're around me, (yes. I will embarrass and humiliate you) don't smoke a dipped stick or dip yours in your drink. Cigars are meant to be smoked as they are. Smoking a dipped or flavored cigar is a sure sign that, 1. You don't know shit about cigars. 2. You're a pussy. 3.You'll probably never know shit about cigars and will always be pussy. Here's your response if and when asked if you want to douche your stick; *I DON'T SMOKE MY LIQUOR, SO I WON'T DRINK MY CIGAR, THANKS ANYWAY DORK.*
That being said, I highly recommend wine or brandy with a fine cigar. Just
keep your stick dry. 'nuff said.
Food for thought. NOT everyone that smokes cigars are cool like me and the boys. Some just lite up for special occasions. Good for the cigar business, but unfortunate for serious thinkers and relaxers and those that appreciate the nuances of good tobacco. I'm being facetious of course. Actually, I'm not. Whatever. Anyway, smoking has it's place. I like it. It can be a great social tool and construct. I highly recommend it. Especially if you like good company.
Speaking of food. My next favorite subject. I'll think I'll bore the crap out of you in the future on that subject.

A word about politics; PAY ATTENTION. VOTE. If you do neither, NEVER get in
my face or on my nerves about your shitty life or even attempt to discuss
with me what YOU think should happen and how to save the world. Go spray paint
a fur coat or adopt a terrorist for jesuus. That's my great scholarly word
on politics. I vote and I think about this country I have sworn an oath to
defend it, and I have sworn to uphold the constitution. I will do both. That
also means I get to rant a bit.... Hence, the following article. Enjoy, I
could read this a couple of times a day, YES! YES! Demarus A libertarian mad

I know, that to the high and holy ones will I send my words,
thoughts
and deeds. From them shall I reap a bounty of peace, PROSPERITY,
CONFIDENCE and victory
I know, that my ancestors, that gave me life and
name, ward me with
wisdom and love. I shall honor them.
I know, that I stand at the Irmunsil with all
the wights and beings
that dwell there. Their might and their holiness are clear to me.
I know, that I am created of holy Gods in a sacred
place I am of the
Gods and they are of me. I am the folk.
Hail the Gods!
Hail the Ancestors!
Hail the folk!
